TECHNICIAN, CULTIVATION - AURORA COAST

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Greenhouse Manager, the Technician, Cultivation will be responsible for carrying out daily cultivation duties in Auroras cutting-edge Cannabis breeding greenhouse, located in Comox, BC. The successful candidate will work together with science experts to assist in state-of-the-art breeding and genetics research. We are looking for an organized, hard-working individual who works well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transplanting, pruning, and harvesting as required
  • Assisting in scouting for plant pathogens and pests
  • Preparing fertilizer, media, buffers, and solutions
  • Cleaning and sterilizing of cultivation rooms and equipment
  • Shredding and composting plant waste and grow media
  • Assisting in tracking and ordering cultivation supplies inventory
  • Assisting the science team with plant observations and data entry, as needed
  • Organizing collected data using software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. as needed
  • Assisting the Operations team with maintenance tasks, as needed
  • Complying with company safety, regulatory standards and SOPs
  • Contributing to overall lab organization and tidiness

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A minimum of BSc or technical certificate in Plant biology, Horticulture or related discipline; or
  • A minimum of two years experience working in a greenhouse, horticulture, agriculture or laboratory environment
  • Experience making basic solutions and operating scales, pipets and pH meters
  • Basic knowledge of the life cycle of Cannabis
  • Ability to work in environments with pollen and plant debris
  • Comfortable with basic use of Microsoft office tools such as Excel and Word
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented and able to accurately keep records
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced setting
  • Able to comfortably lift 22 kilograms

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical effort is required: lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs
  • Temperatures range from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius, and 50 to 85% humidity
  • Repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms.

 

Note: This position involves significant exposure to cannabis/plant materials, and it is therefore not likely suitable for an employee that may suffer from allergies to cannabis/plant pollen material, or experience other medical issues, such as asthma and hay fever, as a result of cannabis/plant material exposure.
