Building Systems Controller

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is seeking a Building Systems Controller to join our growing team. Aurora Cannabis Inc. is a world-renowned integrated cannabis company with an industry-leading reputation for continuously elevating and setting the global cannabis industry standard.


In this role, you will be working in multidisciplinary teams. The activities include daily monitoring of the building management system for HVAC to identify any faults or deviations from setpoints.  In addition to this you will prepare reports on a weekly and monthly basis highlighting the performance of the systems. 




  • Daily monitoring of the building management system (BMS) for multiple facilities
  • Learn and master climate control software (Priva) to support healthy plant life and optimize systems to improve yields
  • Identify potential faults and notify maintenance staff.
  • Diagnose system defects, carry out necessary troubleshooting and determine the appropriate corrective action
  • Conduct inspection, testing, adjusting, and evaluation of BMS to get optimal performance
  • Install, operate, and maintain electrical and electronic components associated with control systems
  • Carry out system adjustment and record all settings by use of checklists designed for the purpose
  • Carry out those modifications to programs that are required to ensure the effective operation of the BMS
  • Weekly & monthly reporting on operational conditions
  • Utilize and create reports using system data to maximize equipment efficiency
  • Provide internal customer support services to ensure the automation systems meet their performance targets
  • Other duties as assigned



  • 3+ years working on large scale industrial HVAC systems preferred
  • Experience with climate control methods balancing humidity, temperature and air quality challenged by constantly changing external conditions
  • Experience with large scale glycol chillers and air handling units
  • Boiler experience a plus
  • Experience with a wide variety of filter mediums
  • Knowledge of office or “people space” heating and cooling systems
  • Proficiency with reading electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Relentless pursuit of learning and growth in the world of industrial automation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary team and diverse internal and external customers/suppliers
  • Above average knowledge of word-processing software, spreadsheet software, email software
  • Ability to establish excellent business relationships with key suppliers, business associates and stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use time effectively in order to set action plans to achieve business targets
  • Ability to create a positive, safe and productive team atmosphere
  • Mechanically inclined and able to apply both external and internal resources to resolve any challenges
  • Sound knowledge of engineering principles
  • Experience at responding to complex stressful situations and resolving issues positively
  • High degree of ability to think strategically and problem solve
  • Able to follow and uphold standard operating procedures precisely and consistently; detail oriented

  • Ability to sort, prioritize, retain and analyze information




  • Greater than 3 years’ experience in a related role
  • Experience operating within a manufacturing environment
  • Working with industrial scale systems
  • Experience starting up new general systems in cooperation with vendors



  • College Diploma in an HVAC or related discipline
