Co-generation/BAS Operator

 

Location: Bradford, ON

 

Under the direction of the Maintenance and Reliability Supervisor/Manager, the Co-generation/Building Operator is responsible for the efficient and safe operation and maintenance of the physical plant and related building equipment and its controls software, in compliance with rules and regulations set out by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (T.S.S.A.) as well as any other regulatory agencies or jurisdictions governing the operation of Natural Gas Cogeneration systems.  While the incumbent is responsible for all functions in accordance with duties defined in this job description, the primary focus of this position will be the preventive and demand maintenance and operation of the Cogeneration Plant and the monitoring of the Building Automation Systems (BAS).

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the operation and basic maintenance of the stationary natural gas equipment: including but not limited to, engines, pumps, valves, coolers, panels, generator packages and related machinery
  • Responsible for conducting preventative maintenance inspections and basic maintenance of the CoGen stations, both Engines and structures
  • Responsible for maintaining all applicable records, logs, reports and drawings of all applicable equipment, controls and systems.
  • Responsible for monitoring and updating the BAS (Priva) daily
  • Operate automated/computerized control systems. Ensures control stations and all mechanical devices are running well and that problems are discovered before they become larger issues.  Operations are to be optimized where/when possible.
  • Able to navigate various drawings and technical manuals. Maintains logbooks, maintenance forms and completes CMMS entries on a daily basis.
  • Produce reports, records of information related to operational, maintenance and safety activities in the property management system.
  • Act as first responder in the event of problems or anomalies as it relates to the job.
  • Receive general alarms/trips from the plant and take appropriate action.
  • May be called upon to manage the system via a remote control centre such as a laptop. Able to perform remote troubleshooting using the various digital controls at their disposal.
  • Responsible for working with the Development Team and Contractors with shutdowns, print review, and attending commissioning orientation for all necessary training required for maintaining a completed project.
  • Responsible to assist other Team Members as required on various Maintenance platforms
  • Coordinate the activities of external service providers as directed.
  • Environmental awareness – eliminates, reduce and/or clean up all environmental incidents. Report as per P&P
  • Perform all work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all its regulations.  Responsible for adhering to all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and provisions established by Aurora.  Responsible for recognizing unsafe work practices and other potential hazards in the workplace, and for ensuring that these situations are corrected and, where corrective action cannot be taken, reports to his/her immediate supervisors or delegate.
  • Train and/or direct the activities of apprentices and/or semi-skilled trades assigned to assist them in their work.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with all applicable legislation, codes, standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, professional development training and all departmental orientation programs as assigned.
  • All duties outlined in the job description may occasionally be called upon to work alternate shift relief during staffing shortages or plant emergencies.

QUALIFICATION:

 

  • Valid Journeyman with an Electrical or Mechanical trade or Power Generation certificate with real life experience
  • BAS experience
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience with technical plant and field operations
  • Experience as a BAS operator (PRIVA, Compression, Dehy, SCADA) experience will be strongly preferred
  • CSTS and H2S will be considered an asset, but is not required
  • Possess a well-rounded knowledge of engine, generator, and compressor performance and operations; experience with Jenbacher, Waukesha, and Cat considered an asset.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude to perform the hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • Must possess clear communication skills, as this person is expected to represent the Department of Maintenance and Reliability in a positive manner to internal personnel and external contractors.
