Job summary.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Cultivation – Propagation, the Cultivation Assistant – Propagation is responsible to act as a trusted subject matter team member assisting in leading propagation activities at the Aurora River facility.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITES:
Propagation Assistance:
- Participate in the continuous scouting and monitoring of the crop for health, pests and diseases.
- Participate in cultivation related activities such as watering, feeding, transplanting, pruning, defoliating, crop maintenance, harvesting and cycle turnover as required.
- Collect supplies, chemicals and other necessary tools for the week’s workload.
Team Supervising and Training:
- Act as an escalation point for propagation questions for team members.
- Communicate and escalate all issues with the crop and/or the production process to all the relevant parties as required.
- Assist in leading and training of production processes, ensuring procedures are properly following Aurora’s SOP’s.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Where applicable, must adhere to Aurora’s SOP’s and comply with Health Canada’s Cannabis Act. In addition, must adhere to all ISO requirements and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Where applicable, promote and maintain GMP requirements.
- Participate in recognizing contamination and cross-contamination risks within the department.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Assist in the maintenance of accurate records of propagated plants, inventory levels, and propagation outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of propagation activities, including growth data and observations.
Facility Maintenance and Optimization:
- Recognize unsafe conditions and practices and make corrections to prevent injuries and product loss
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic understanding of plant propagation techniques and practices.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions for plant care and propagation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate well with colleagues.
- Basic knowledge of cannabis cultivation practices is beneficial.
- Basic computer and outlook 365 knowledge .
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certification in horticulture or related fields is advantageous.
- Prior experience in plant propagation, horticulture, agriculture, or related roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with cannabis cultivation practices and compliance requirements is advantageous.
- Physical ability to stand, lift, and move objects as needed in a cultivation environment.
Working Conditions:
- Most/all working hours will be spent in production
- Full PPE is to be worn at all times during working hours
- Includes booties, coveralls, gloves, hairnet, glasses and surgical mask, certain duties also require use of half face respirator.
- Physical effort is required, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs.
- Temperatures range from 20 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius with the humidity 50-70%
- Able to perform cleaning and crop maintenance duties while working on a step ladder
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and after hours as required.
This role is in one of Aurora’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified plants and works directly with products. Towards the end of the recruitment process, we require that you undergo a medical screening exam with our third-party vendor.
