DIRECTOR, OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director, Operational Excellence will be responsible for establishing an operational excellence program. With the objective to deliver $15 Million in annual savings within the program’s first year, the incumbent will establish a continuous improvement culture that is focused on waste elimination, process optimization, capability building and the relentless engagement of team members to take accountability for improvements and the sustainability of the program. This Director will be responsible for developing the OpEx program from the ground up, including identifying needs, rolling out the program by training all levels of employees, tracking KPIs and more. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish the Operational Excellence (OpEx) Program’s strategic direction, priorities and objectives to deliver annual savings through the implementation of KPIs, scorecard measuring and tracking progress towards goals and reporting of results. 
  • Ensure the program is consistently delivered across multiple sites and groups within organization. 
  • Identify OpEx tools to be implemented that best fit the objectives and opportunities at each site or group to meet program goals.
  • Define and implement data collection systems to ensure consistent reporting of KPIs and results from a single source of truth. 
  • Train, coach, and mentor team members at all levels of the organization o the tools and methods to ensure the sustainability of the program. 
  • Facilitate collaboration and information sharing across the organization.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate roadblocks.
  • Design and facilitate mini transformations, Kaizens, training, and collaboration workshops. 
  • A hands-on leader prepared to spend time in the facilities observing and driving change, including identifying improvement needs, providing hands-on training to all staff levels and tracking the success of the program.
  • Work with a variety of data sources, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, and ability to navigate across the organization.
  • Ability to engage and excite diverse teams to identify common goals, drive consensus and manage conflict.
  • Exceptional change management skills adopting and implementing tools and programs. 
  • Proven ability to develop and build high performing teams and strong cross-functional stakeholder relationships. 
  • Ability to think strategically, problem solve and make quick decisions.

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Finance, or related field
  • 5 to 8 years’ experience leading in a Manufacturing environment, preferable in consumer-packaged goods (CPG) or pharmaceuticals industry.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience leading an operational excellence program (Lean Six Sigma) in a Manufacturing environment
  • Experience in developing and implementing transformational change, ability to establish and implement an OpEx program
  • Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma is considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint), proficient in data visualization software (Tableau, Minitab, JMP).
