HSE SPECIALIST

 

Reporting to the Director HSE, the HSE SPECIALIST will support the east facilities – Bradford (Home office), Markham and Brampton DC locations. The HSE Specialist will assist with the implementation, development and maintenance of the company’s health and safety management system as well as supporting CSR initiatives and environmental reporting. Administering programs that educate employees on Occupational Health and Safety and ensure compliance with; all legislation and regulations issued by government agencies, and where appropriate, safety programs required by clients for whom we provide services.

 

MAIN RESPONSILBITIES:

  • Support Operations (attend safety meetings, complete inspections, training etc.)
  • Investigate incidents Evaluate the workplace environment and assist with developing safety-management practices that identify and define the safety responsibilities of all employees
  • Review CAPA’s for each of the facilities and ensure timely follow up and closure of assigned items
  • Assist HR with the management of WCB claims; ensuring timely completion of accident/injury reporting and ensuring modified duties are completed as prescribed
  • Ensure the workplace tools and equipment meet industry standards and are installed properly, as defined by the Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Maintain a highly visible presence in the facility; assist in implementation of the HSE programs in the facility and perform regular inspections
  • Schedule and perform Health Safety and Environmental orientation meetings, including project hazard assessments and site safety plans
  • Provide Health & Safety support to the Markham and Bradford facilities
  • Work closely with management and leadership to drive and strengthen safety culture, as well as resolve safety issues and make improvements to the safety program
  • Assist with creating a delivering all safety communications
  • Develop and influence a positive company safety culture
  • Support the Corporate Social Responsibility Team’s Environmental initiatives and reporting requirements
  • Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive understanding and knowledge of provincial and federal health, safety and Environment guidelines
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is required
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Excellent time management & multi-tasking abilities, as well as a high level of energy and ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to internal and external customers
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to multi-task, and adhere to deadlines
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information and situations

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • 5 plus years’ experience as a CSO, MSO or other Health and Safety role
  • C.R.S.P. is preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing is considered an asset
  • Experience in collecting GHG emissions data in support of carbon footprint calculations considered an asset
