The incumbent will work within the Production & Operations Departments and report to the Technical Director of Applied Science and Extraction. As the Extraction Manager, you will be responsible for the coordination and execution of all technical and innovation activities within the Applied Science and Extraction department. The position will focus on executing product development initiatives by providing leadership, planning and oversight of the respective team, creating daily and weekly plans that meet the objective of the organization, continuous improvement and reporting results regularly. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, energetic and able to work as part of a team and at a fast pace.




  • Responsible for all non-routine extraction development and all refinement operations, including the safety, production, quality and performance of the department.
  • Extraction and isolation team is responsible for preparing equipment and plant materials for extraction, operating isolation/refinement equipment and maintenance of respective equipment, maintaining records of product and inventory.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching and development to the extraction team.
  • Create a working environment within the E&I team that enhances employee performance and retention.
  • Assist operations in provide scheduling, forecasting changes and demands in resolving production and manpower challenges.
  • Provide orientation and training to ensure an effective and efficient team.
  • Develop, implement and maintain production tracking and continuously improve processes and procedures by fostering and operating in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Maintain production records and track key metrics, regularly report findings to management.
  • Create, present, and manage plans vs actual results as well as efficiencies.
  • Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times by enforcing Company standards and completing regular inspections of department.
  • Where applicable, must adhere to MedReleaf’s SOPs and comply with Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR). In addition, must adhere to ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environment Management System) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series).
  • Where applicable, promote and maintain GMP requirements.
  • Other duties as required.



  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership / management experience is required.
  • Minimum of M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands on laboratory experience with various extraction methodologies, winterization and short path distillation/fractional distillation.
  • Ideal candidate has expertise and knowledge in subcritical and supercritical CO2 extraction and hydrocarbon extraction methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of various compounds of cannabis.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Total Quality Management (or similar) training considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage, encourage, and adopt effective communication practices.
  • Ability to act as a strong leader and effectively integrate into fast-paced and high-pressure teams with a strong sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
