The incumbent will work in the Operations Department and report to the Director of Manufacturing. As the Process Engineer, Extraction & Purification, you will be responsible for the coordination and execution of all technical and innovation activities within the extraction and purification departments. The position will focus on executing product and process development initiatives by providing leadership, planning and oversight of the respective team, creating daily and weekly plans that meet the objective of the organization, continuous improvement and reporting results regularly. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, energetic, able to work at a fast pace, and demonstrate expertise in Cannabis extraction, purification, distillation, and isolation.



  • Identifying, implementing and qualifying extraction and purification technologies.
  • Responsible for all non-routine extraction and purification development and all refinement operations, including the safety, production, quality and performance of the department.
  • Provide strategic vision and oversight for extraction, distillation, and isolation processes and systems.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment for extraction and purification, and maintaining records of all activities.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching and development to the extraction and purification teams.
  • Assist operations decision making for scheduling, forecasting changes and demands in resolving production and manpower challenges.
  • Provide orientation and training to ensure an effective and efficient team.
  • Draft and approve SOPs and Master Batch Records covering extraction, purification and formulation activities.
  • Develop, implement and maintain production tracking and continuously improve processes and procedures by fostering and operating in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Maintain production records and track key metrics, regularly report findings to management.
  • Create, present, and manage manufacturing plan performance and efficiencies.
  • Ensure that a safe working environment is always maintained by enforcing Company standards and completing regular inspections of department.
  • Where applicable, must adhere to Aurora’s SOPs and comply with Health Canada’s Cannabis Act.
  • Where applicable, promote and maintain GMP requirements.
  • Other duties as required




  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership / management experience is required, preferably from laboratory setting
  • PEO (Professional Engineer of Ontario) designation eligibility - P. Eng. preferred
  • Degree in related field
  • Hands on laboratory experience with various extraction methodologies, winterization and short path distillation/fractional distillation
  • Ideal candidate has expertise in subcritical and supercritical CO2 extraction methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of various compounds of cannabis Understanding the qualitative and quantitative composition of extracts derived using different technologies, such as flavonoids, terpenes, and other plant materials
  • Experienced in installing and operating process equipment and technologies and the analytical methods for quantification
  • Experienced in optimizing extraction methods to maximize yield, and development of purification methods required to obtain high purity THC and CBD
  • Lean Manufacturing/Total Quality Management (or similar) training considered and asset
  • Proven ability to manage, encourage, and adopt effective communication practices
  • Ability to act as a strong leader and effectively integrate into fast-paced and high-pressure teams with a strong sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
