Job Summary: The Senior Manager of Engineering will be responsible for leading the engineering project management team to execute capital and operational excellence projects across all Canadian facilities. This individual will oversee the identification, prioritization and budgeting of all site-level engineering projects. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and collaboration skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
As the Senior Manager, Engineering, you will be responsible for:
Project Management:
- Manage the planning and execution of Capital projects using the local and remote engineering team members across the Canadian facilities.
- Oversee when necessary local Project Management activities, with a strong understanding of contractor management
- Working knowledge and understanding of capital project management and its responsibility to develop and share timelines, budgets, RACI charts and risk logs to the identified stakeholder team
Capital Investment Planning:
- Work with the Site Directors and Director, Engineering to develop and maintain a strategic capital investment plan to support the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization.
- Evaluate capital expenditure proposals, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to secure funding, procure equipment and consumables to support projects, manage on-site trades and vendor relationships.
- Identify and prioritize capacity growth and productivity projects
Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the engineering team
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within the department.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set performance goals, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to team members.
- Identify training and development opportunities to enhance the technical skills and capabilities of the team.
- Support Project Controls in advancing the tools in place for the project management team
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure that all engineering activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, local building codes and company policies.
- Stay informed about changes in regulations and standards pertaining to facility operations, equipment safety, and environmental compliance.
- Collaborate with regulatory affairs and compliance teams to address any compliance issues or audit findings.
You’re the ideal candidate if you have…
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, and professional engineer designation. Master's degree considered additional asset.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance and engineering roles, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Bonus Points if you also have:
- Proven track record of successfully managing capital programs, executing engineering projects, and leading capital investment initiatives.
- Strong project management skills with experience in project planning, budgeting, and risk management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and best practices in maintenance and engineering.
- Experience working in the cannabis industry or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to after-hours emergencies if project timelines require.
