Aurora Larssen Projects Inc. (ALPS), a team of professional engineers, crop specialists, drafts people, analysts, project managers, and innovators who specialize in technical consulting services for the greenhouse industry, is seeking an experienced Automation Technican II which will be based out of our Burlington, ON office. 


ALPS is responsible for the design and construction oversight of Aurora's state-of-the art greenhouse facilities, including the world's largest, most advanced cannabis production facility known as Aurora Sky.

This position will be part of a team maintaining and operating a high-tech, automated, environmentally-controlled greenhouse. The Controls and Automation Specialist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical and building infrastructure specialists supporting internal Propagation and Quality customers. The candidate must master climate and motion automation systems and be skilled in defining the proper software and material architecture to optimize the machine functions to meet production objectives. It is essential for the candidate to be organized, result oriented and have strong problem-solving skills.

  • Troubleshoot and program PLC system used to operate robotic cells, transport systems and HMI applications and consoles;
  • Master machine control techniques on PC and PLC platforms;
  • Be proficient in databases and industrial IT networks to deliver integrated solutions to the customers;
  • Learn and master climate control software (Priva) to support healthy plant life and optimize systems to improve yields
  • Be available to travel on occasion for training and startup requirements
  • Provide customer support services to ensure the automation systems meet their performance targets;
  • Any other related tasks.


  • PLC programming experience using multiple types of software such as Rockwell, Siemens or Omron
  • Experience with automated equipment and systems
  • Proficiency with reading electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities;
  • Experience working with Industrial Network Protocols
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Above average knowledge of word-processing software, spreadsheet software, email software

  • Ability to create a positive, safe and productive team atmosphere
  • Mechanically inclined and able to apply both external and internal resources to resolve any challenges

  • Greater than 5 years’ experience in a related role
  • Experience operating within a manufacturing environment
  • Working with automated industrial systems
  • Experience starting up new general systems in cooperation with vendors



  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in an Engineering or related discipline
