Our Breeding and Genetics program was established to provide the science, technical innovations and services that underpin the Aurora’s global cannabis production. We use modern plant breeding approaches to develop next generation cannabis varieties and genetics research to understand how this plant functions at a molecular level. Our research efforts allow Aurora to achieve more economical production, through higher yields, reduce pressure from disease and reduce inputs, and to produce higher value cannabis products that meet patient and consumer needs. Our plant science and breeding activities are focused at our Coast facility in Comox, British Columbia. This dedicated research facility includes over 10,000 square feet of laboratory/research space and a 22,500 square foot purpose designed greenhouse. 

 

Job Summary
We’re searching for a dynamic technician to plant their roots with us as a Maintenance Technician. In this role, you will be supporting our R&D facility by ensuring our infrastructure is operating and maintained to meet the needs of a high-tech, automated, environmentally controlled growing facility.

As the Maintenance Technician you will focus on…

 

Reporting to the Director, Operations; the Maintenance Technician will be located at Comox, BC, at our Coast facility. The Maintenance Technician will work as part of a small multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical, and building infrastructure specialists. The candidate must have a solid understanding of building and greenhouse services.  As a small site, this is a hands-on position with some of the day-to-day routines surrounding fire systems, pest control, grounds and preventative maintenance may require your support. It is essential for the candidate to be well organized, result oriented and have strong problem-solving skills. The candidate should have a strong work ethic and be available for on call duties and after-hours call-ins as required in a response to building emergencies.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Perform routine daily inspections of select Facilities operations and be able to find issues before they become larger issues.
  • Able to handle Facilities contractors of all types to ensure desired results from planned jobs and unplanned work.
  • Handle some of the day-to-day facility tasks ranging from small office repair to snow removal, et al.  Candidate will only be asked to do things that fall within their scope/ability.
  • Work with our Engineering Dept. to assist in their larger projects at site maintaining compliance as required by Health Canada.
  • Responding to automated fault detection alarm systems on your phone during or after-hours, e.g., Fire Systems
  • Respond to production issues in a timely manner.
  •  Be responsible for repairing, maintaining and performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Keep all equipment in good working condition.
  • Inspect and test machinery and equipment.
  • Safely operate all required equipment and tools including standard shop safety processes
  • Utilize precision measuring tools to verify parts, components and details are dimensionally correct.
  • Work independently to service various internal customers.
  • Other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years working as a licensed Journeyman in one of the Trades (equivalents will be considered on a one-by-one basis).
  • Comfortable with interpreting building, electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Previously overseeing/tending to equipment in a greenhouse environment an asset.
  • Facility experiences a must. 
  • Understanding of large scale HVACR will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use time effectively.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to establish business relationships with key contractors/suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary team and diverse internal and external customers/suppliers.
  • Able to follow and uphold standard operating procedures precisely and consistently; accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations.
  • Able to respond to complex situations/competing interests and resolving issues quickly and positively.
  • Operational excellence and continuous improvement oriented; safety minded and able to always follow strict safety protocols.
