DIRECTOR, OPERATIONAL FINANCE

 

Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Operational Finance, the Director, Operational Finance will be based in Edmonton and will oversee, manage and provide leadership for the cost/manufacturing accounting capacity for the Company’s Canadian and global facilities. The Director will work closely with Senior Management, Production GMs, and the Senior Director, Global Operational Finance to articulate accounting policies, procedures and controls, provide consistency of standards, and to provide business insight across the Canadian operations. The Director will be required to regularly interface with managers, and production team members, and oversee Canadian Controllers and work with international contacts for consolidation and consistency of operational finance data, to maintain accurate, updated information on manufacturing costs, operational efficiencies, and business analysis.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

 

  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and development opportunities to the Operational Finance team
  • Visionary for departmental improvements and reporting to facilities to benefit decision making
  • Responsible for the validation of inventories through internal controls, cost monitoring and operational analysis, including variance analysis against standards
  • Ensure Operational Finance is closely integrated with the other finance departments, identifying knowledge sharing, synergies, value creation and educational opportunities
  • Ensure facility budgets are prepared, maintained and analyzed and submitted to FP&A on an ongoing, timely basis
  • Work with Operations and Controllers to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes which impact stakeholder reporting quality and influence internal operating efficiency
  • Support acquisitions/new facilities through alignment by communicating Operational Finance workflows, processes and costing methodology
  • Provides advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting
  • Supporting new systems or project selections and implementation from a strategic, finance, and internal control perspective

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to think strategically, problem solve and make quick decisions
  • Ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience in using technology; including ERP and SEI
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Time management and follow-up skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Effective team player and leader; approachable and supportive
  • Accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations
  • Strong written, verbal and communication skills
  • Occasional travel

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • 10+ years’ experience working in a finance/accounting environment in a high volume, rapidly-growing environment, preferably in manufacturing, agriculture or related industry
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior finance/accounting role (Managing a department, Managing Budgets, creating controls, etc.)
  • 5+ years’ experience in management/cost accounting
  • Experience in a publicly traded company is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset

 

EDUCATION:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Accounting designation required
