INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAWYER

 

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel and Head of IP, this IP Lawyer will be responsible for providing legal advice to Aurora Cannabis Inc. and its subsidiaries in all matters pertaining to intellectual property.

 

MAIN RESPONSILBITIES:

 

  • Provide legal counsel and deliver exceptional value to senior counsel and executive management in all matters pertaining to intellectual property to advance the interests of Aurora and its subsidiaries
  • Review, draft and negotiate the full scope of agreements relating to intellectual property
  • Perform risk assessments relating to business activities, new product plans and strategies by providing support to legal counsel on patent scope, infringement and validity
  • Participate in M&A due diligence activities as it relates to IP
  • Monitor the competitive intellectual property space to identify potential infringing products, provide IP litigation support as required
  • Provide ad-hoc support and maintain open communication within the legal department, leveraging extensive knowledge of relevant IP law and technical areas of expertise

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to offer unique perspectives on complex issues pertaining to intellectual property
  • Ability to handle all different facets of an agreement; proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and intellectual property law
  • Strong drafting skills and excellent oral and written communication, strong legal research, drafting and oral advocacy, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Proactively communicate with team members and other stakeholders and develop and maintain a trusted relationship throughout the process
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities, as well as a high level of energy and ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining good judgment
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset
  • Life Sciences patent experience strongly preferred
  • Electrical arts patent experience considered an asset
  • Trademark experience is considered an asset

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 

 

The ideal candidate will be based out of Edmonton, Alberta or Vancouver, British Columbia.
