INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIST

  

This is a generalist communications position within Aurora’s Corporate Affairs team, with both internal and external responsibilities. Based in Edmonton at Aurora’s head office, this key position reports to the Director of Communications in Toronto. This is a great position for an independent, dedicated communications professional, looking for the opportunity to develop their career in fast-paced, growing and exciting industry. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Internal

 

  • Provide internal communications support to departments in Edmonton and throughout Aurora’s operations across Canada, including but not limited to business units such as Human Resources, Information Services, Science & Research, Operations, Marketing and Training and Development
  • Act as a communications resource to departments when rolling out new programs and other initiatives
  • Using a variety of appropriate tactics and strategies, support internal communications and departments to ensure company-wide programs are effectively communicated to all levels of the organization
  • With training provided, help develop and maintain intranet pages to support departments
  • Regularly create compelling content, including for the intranet and company newsletter, to support the understanding of Aurora’s goals, progress, business plans and strategic initiatives
  • Support and advance the corporate narrative across Aurora and its wholly-owned subsidiaries

 

External

 

  • Collaborating with the external communications team, provide support for external communications and media relations in Alberta and Western Canada, as required
  • Contribute to, write and edit press releases, as required
  • Deliver communications that are focused on maintaining and strengthening Aurora’s culture by ensuring strategic fit and appropriate tone and messaging
  • Assist in any crisis communications, as required
  • Monitor media and topics of discussion to identify communication opportunities and employ issues management tactics
  • Assign and work with outside agencies as required
     

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 5 years of professional communications or journalism experience
  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or related discipline
  • Ability to work remotely and independently, while remaining aligned with the goals and needs of the full team
  • Ability to develop internal communications strategies and implement tactics to help maintain and strengthen company culture
  • Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Exceptional research, writing, editing, layout and presentations skills
  • Experience writing/creating/producing materials across a variety of platforms, including digital, print, social media and video
  • Ability to influence others, ability to effectively tailor messaging to target different audiences and represent different presenters
