CONTROLS AND AUTOMATION SPECIALIST

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Controls and Automation Specialist will be located in Nisku, AB at our Sky Facility.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Troubleshoot and program PLC system used to operate robotic cells, transport systems and HMI applications and consoles;
  • Master machine control techniques on PC and PLC platforms;
  • Be proficient in databases and industrial IT networks to deliver integrated solutions to the customers;
  • Learn and master climate control software (Priva) to support healthy plant life and optimize systems to improve yields
  • Be available to travel on occasion for training and startup requirements
  • Provide customer support services to ensure the automation systems meet their performance targets;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years in a related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in an Engineering or related discipline.
  • PLC programming experience using multiple types of software such as Rockwell, Siemens or Omron
  • Experience with automated equipment and industrial systems
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities; high degree of ability to think strategically, prioritize, retain and analyze information.
  • Experience working with Industrial Network Protocols and sound knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use time effectively in order to set action plans to achieve various business targets.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to establish excellent business relationships with key suppliers, business associates and stakeholders and start up new general systems in cooperation with vendors.
  • Relentless pursuit of learning and growth in the world of industrial automation.
  • Ability to create a positive, safe and productive team atmosphere.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary team and diverse internal and external customers/suppliers.
  • Able to follow and uphold standard operating procedures precisely and consistently; accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations.
  • Experience in responding to complex situations with competing interests and resolving issues positively.
  • Operational excellence and continuous improvement oriented; safety minded and able to follow strict safety protocols at all times.
  • Proven PLC knowledge will be required by the correct candidate.
  • May be required to complete shift work if needed.
