DIRECTOR, ENGINEERING

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Director, Engineering is responsible for overseeing and providing leadership to a cross-functional team and will assist with a variety of day to day tasks such as reviewing project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work, identifying project goals and objectives, controlling project budgets and coordinating project deliverables with the team to ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget. 

 

In addition to the above the role includes supporting key manufacturing sites in day to day continuous improvement and reliability projects.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of projects related to the development of infrastructure, engineering, equipment and environmental management; ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals
  • Oversee cross-functional team and manage the planning and execution of Capital efforts in the global area of responsibility
  • Oversee Project Managers in the direction and planning of all aspects of a project including project scheduling, logistics, quality control, subcontractors and project staffing levels
  • The incumbent will collaborate with the local Executive and Senior Management teams to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company
  • Assist in developing and improving Corporate Best Practices
  • Lead discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, customers and Aurora management
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures (Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, etc.)
  • Review and resolve concerns regarding issues and performance of the project
  • Manage or oversee the management of professional services during design and construction phases
  • Manage or oversee the management of contractor's construction activities as a prime contractor in terms of safety, including periodical construction site visits and supporting or addressing contractual matters
  • Understand project risks and ensuring project teams implement strategies to manage Aurora’s business risk
  • Liaise with project stakeholders to collect requirements and maintain effective communication
  • Work in coordination with Project Controls to keep project stakeholders and senior management informed on key project metrics
  • Establish working relationship with manufacturing leadership to understand needs and support manufacturing goals
  • Facilitate the professional development of the team

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-7+ years of senior management experience
  • 10+ years of project management experience in a construction environment
  • Professional engineering (P. Eng) designation
  • Extensive work experience in complex, highly regulated industries
  • Experience with pharmaceutical production, Food and Beverage manufacturing or indoor agricultural/greenhouse environments
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours
  • Highly collaborative and flexible - Ability to build effective working relationships with others inside and outside the organization, including leadership
  • Ability to motivate, lead and facilitate a cross-functional team to achieve objectives
  • Professional Project Management Certificate preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of commercial construction
  • Working knowledge of construction codes and standards
  • Strong analytical skills and construction detailing practices

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with clients and all stakeholders for successful project completion
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook)
  • Experience estimating projects with varying budgets and details
  • Ability to successfully manage small and large budgets
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated and enjoys a challenge
  • Detail conscious and result oriented
  • High level of professionalism, integrity and ethics
  • Willing and able to learn new skills and concepts quickly
  • Enjoys a multi-faceted and dynamic work environment
