Lab Manager Commercial Tissue Culture Lab

 

The Lab Manager will play a critical role in development, integration, and scale-up of the Plant Tissue Culture Lab at the Aurora Sky facility located in the greater Edmonton, AB area. The candidate must be experienced in commercial micropropagation/meristem culture. The incumbent will be expected to manage a large technical team contributing to media preparations, culture initiations, germplasm maintenance and culture transfer and acclimation to production environments.  The Lab Manager will also oversee SOP development, maintenance of clean room, contamination troubleshooting, software inventory, and process efficiency development. Exceptional organizational skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is also required.

 

Skills

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of micropropagation/meristem culture including but not limited to initiation, propagation, maintenance, culture transfer, and acclimation according to SOPs and Good Lab Practices
  • Must be able to troubleshoot bacterial, fungal, and viral contamination while maximizing production goals
  • Must be able to communicate with key stakeholders in various departments closely linked to or affected by micropropagation
  • Ability to track and report production metrics in a timely manner
  • Must meet production timelines for third party orders, intra-company transfers, and commercial deadlines

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc degree in Plant Science, Botany or Horticulture, or closely related field, with 10 years OR MSc in Plant Science, or closely related field, with 7-8 years of experience in commercial micropropagation/meristem culture
  • Over 3 years of experience in a R & D tissue culture lab desired
  • Experience managing a team of 15 or more
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience using LIMS in production an asset
  • Willing to relocate
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
