QA MANAGER, FOOD SAFETY & SUPPLIER COMPLIANCE

We are seeking a self-motivated individual to help drive us into the next stage of growth in in our corporate quality initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Quality Assurance-Edibles, the QA Manager, Food Safety & Supplier Compliance will ensure consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good manufacturing practice systems; validating processes and continuous product improvement initiatives. This position will also lead the regulatory activities to ensure compliance with all applicable food safety regulations, lead activities to audit and ensure that all suppliers meet all Quality and Safety requirements to supply Aurora with ingredients, products and services as well as assisting in the development of corporate policies and procedures. This position can be located in Edmonton or Toronto to support our Nisku, AB and/or Bradford, ON facilities. This position will be required to travel to their local facility. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for material management and control, auditing, and inspection of suppliers
  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Manage emerging issues (e.g. new safety or quality finding) and associated risk communications to stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Manages compliance within the department by ensuring global, regional and local processes, policies, SOPs and working instructions are adhered to
  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
  • Assists in the development of Preventive Control plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.
  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance and audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and technical designs, and manufacturing and training methods.
  • Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions and re-validations.
  • Collaborate with the Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) function/teams to facilitate regulatory activities
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Quality Team to facilitate compliance across all facilities
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team to ensure Vendor compliance.
  • Develop effective working relationships with experts to support regulatory strategies as needed
  • Monitor the regulatory environment, interpret changes, analyze gaps and conduct impact assessment, and participate/lead implementation into systems/processes
  • Training, coaching, monitoring of QA employees
  • Works collaboratively with the Product Development team on R&D projects.
  • Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management, participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Director, QA-Edibles

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in a Science related field, such as Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Horticulture, etc.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a managerial role
  • Auditing Certification such as ASQ Certified Supplier Quality Professional, Certified Food Safety and Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Auditor an asset.
  • Knowledgeable of Canadian Cannabis Act and Regulations, Safe Food for Canadians Act and regulations as well as GUI-001, NHP regulations, guidelines and policies, and EU GMP.
  • Knowledge and experience in auditing against Cannabis GPP, API GMPs, Drug GMPs NHP GMPs and EU GMPs.  ISO-9001-2015, FSSC 22000, BRC, GFSI auditing experience an asset,
  • Understanding of or ability to determine the application of laws, regulations, and policies to specific projects
  • Ability to interpret and understand Regulations in the context of the scientific and commercial environment
  • Strong scientific writing skills are required
  • Ability to assess and document risk and appropriate mitigation
  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment with proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Contribute to the team’s success by working collaboratively with all interested stakeholders to improve and develop internal procedures and external partnerships
  • Foresees and clearly communicates potential problems/risks and offers creative, workable solutions
  • English advanced level, both oral and written
  • Strategic thinker adept at working cross-functionally to achieve goals in a timely manner
  • Effective in an environment requiring independent initiative with multiple deadlines and changing priorities
  • Experience in using technology; including ERP systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations
  • Experience in a publicly traded company is an asset
