The Aurora Science team has been established to provide the science, technical innovations and services that will underpin the Aurora’s global cannabis production. The team includes experts in breeding and genetics, applied cultivation, and plant tissue culture. Our research efforts provide Aurora with scientific data to support operational and commercial business decisions, and to enable Aurora to achieve more economical production, through higher yields with reduced inputs, minimize impacts of pests and disease, and to produce higher value cannabis products that align with patient needs and consumer preference. The consumer experience is an increasingly important focal point in our efforts.

As the legal cannabis industry matures, consumers are demanding increasing levels of quality in their cannabis products. In order to ensure that Aurora’s Sky facility will be able to deliver cannabis that meets and exceeds consumer expectations, the Science team will be continuously trialing, commercializing and optimizing the production of new cultivars bred internally by the Breeding and Genetics team. In addition to this, the successful candidate will also manage data collection and experimentation during standard production cycles to provide data and recommendations for improvements to cultivation procedures. • Work closely with the General Manager, Lead Cultivator and Operations teams to manage the infrastructure and dedicated resources for the project – includes labour, greenhouse bays and climate control systems, drying rooms
  • Leverage Product R&D teams and analytical testing requirements throughout cultivar trials to support decision-making related to advancing genetics and how to manage cultivation and post-harvest processes
  • Make recommendations on future cultivar selection and practices for Sky’s environment, including providing complete data package for Production teams to support full-scale commercialization
  • Support Production teams with research projects required to improve routine cultivation and post-harvest; prioritization based on overall needs of the business
  • Work with the Breeding & Genetics and Cultivar Development teams to set breeding targets that will enable long-term cultivation success at Sky
  • Engage other groups and individuals across Aurora to keep lines of communication open and ensure that all relevant stakeholders are aware of, and included in, projects.

  • 2+ years experience in commercial cultivation of cannabis is desired
  • Science background: a PhD or MSc in biology, plant science, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field is highly desired
  • Experience designing and running research trials, including drafting protocols, data collection and analysis, report writing and presentation of results
