The Opportunity

 

The Vice President, Global CBD Strategy will report to the SVP of Product Development and Regulatory Affairs and be responsible for leading global CBD strategy and activities.  A suitable candidate has the knowledge and experience to manage and coordinate all industry efforts, with a primary focus on CBD market access and value chain development.


Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day management oversight to the leadership team that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of the company
  • Execution, communication and implementation of tactical initiatives required to achieve Aurora’s growth strategies. Plan capital expenditures over a long-term range
  • Manages annual operating budgets and timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Advise the executive team on key planning issues and make recommendations on important business decisions
  • Actively lead and support a positive, proactive, results-oriented work culture that is regarded by peers and stakeholders as innovative and demonstrative of company’s culture, values and desire to super serve
  • Responsible for providing a broad range of support to the organization in the areas of operations, government relations, and external communications
  • Oversee all CBD related activates
  • Primary focus is on executing a CBD value chain from seed to sale
  • Develop and implement annual plans for strengthening Aurora’s CBD position with national, regional and municipal governments
  • Position the company as the global leader in the production of CBD in the medical, recreational and wellness areas
  • Support the development of corporate positioning that enhances the company’s vision and business direction and builds internal/public support and advocacy.
  • Develop strong relationships with third parties to protect and enhance our market position and corporate reputation
  • Understand all aspects of the business, business strategy and objectives, sales, marketing and operations to ensure CBD initiatives are carefully integrated and aligned with company priorities

 

Experience and Background

  • University degree in Public Relations, Political Science or Business Administration or equivalent.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the Public Affairs field - experience in the agrifood or pharma industry is preferred
  • Experienced professional, respected in the field, with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels of stakeholders across the CBD value chain, within the organization and the cannabis industry
  • Strong business strategy knowledge and superior business and financial writing skills
  • Extensive communication skills particularly for resolving complex matters that can seriously impact the corporate reputation and profitability of the company
  • Strong negotiation capabilities
  • A proven track record of success in delivering results through effective leadership in an agrifood or pharma role. This implies having a superb “tool kit” of government and stakeholder relations skills most likely gained in a corporate or trade association setting but possibly in a civil service, political or professional services environment.
  • A proven track record of having built and leveraged relationships of strong trust, respect and understanding with key stakeholders.
  • It would be a strong asset to have experience in a consumer oriented business where an intimate understanding of business economics was gained.
  • A large network of relationships of influence among public and private sector stakeholders, while not necessary, could be helpful.
  • Superb communication skills – the confident ability to speak, present and interact in an affirmative, credible and sincere manner at “an executive level” whether one-on-one or to an audience.
  • At ease, communicating clearly and directly with audiences at all levels of sophistication and able to “think on one’s feet.”
  • A high quality of written communication ability is also required.
  • Singularly results focused – a strong and hands-on action orientation towards achieving goals – known for getting things done.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial and relatively autonomous style consistent with taking initiative and driving hard to complete objectives.
  • Strong business acumen – an ability to understand complex business issues and their underlying economics. A focus on desired business outcomes and strategic imperatives of the industry and how the government and public relations function can support them.
  • Multi-stakeholder management skills – the ability to collaborate and build coalitions among parties with diverse and even opposing interests.
  • A strategic and forward-looking ability to identify and creatively deal with the most critical issues and opportunities among the vast array of issues competing for attention.
  • Project management skills – the ability to tactically implement a complex program or process.
  • High energy and stamina – the ability to work in an intense and fast-paced environment where multiple priorities change frequently.
  • A fact-based, analytical, problem solver – capable of developing sound and credible positions based on solid justifiable data and taking into account the needs and interests of the target audience.
  • Cool and resilient under pressure.
