Based out of Edmonton reporting directly to the Vice President, Quality, the Western Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for Aurora Cannabis Inc.’s Western Canada quality compliance initiatives, driving the quality strategy and supporting the work of the sites teams to deliver local high quality services.


As a senior member of the quality department, the incumbent is responsible for leading and driving quality improvement and regulatory compliance to achieve the best service standards and outcomes for patients and the company. Key responsibilities include:



  • Direct and develop a team of up to five Western Quality Assurance Managers and their teams
  • Direct activities of the Quality Assurance department which support the company’s quality vision
  • Ensuring implementation, effectiveness, and integrity of a quality system that is compliant to all applicable standards and regulations to support the products on the market.
  • Participate in developing Quality metrics and goals; and lead efforts in rolling them out to western sites
  • Providing support and where necessary lead corporate wide quality systems initiatives
  • Work with the Corporate Quality team and departmental teams to lead and develop the quality strategy
  • Lead/support implementation of the quality strategy, plans for quality improvement, quality assurance and related organisational learning.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to support quality improvement
  • Oversee activities required to direct and control quality manufacturing of cannabis and its derivatives
  • Leading and developing processes and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice
  • Direct and develop GMP initiatives at each site.
  • Provide guidance on production processes where applicable, including troubleshooting, GMP compliance, and control of contaminants
  • Effective and strong communication with Production Manager, Lead Cultivator, and Quality Assurance Person
  • Attend and participate in meetings as necessary
  • Research and review cannabis science, including new techniques and technologies, test methodologies, and new products




  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a Technical, Science, or Engineering discipline
  • 10+ years’ experience in quality assurance/operations in a pharmaceutical/ medical device industry
  • Requires 3+ years in a management or supervisory position preferably in quality function
  • Must have demonstrated a proven experience in leading others with a proactive attitude
  • Proficient at writing reports
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and plant science
  • Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset
  • Quality Assurance Certifications considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and ability to produce presentations and work formats to drive strategic and tactical programs
