Senior Cloud Architect


Aurora Cannabis is looking for a Senior Cloud Architect to join our Information Services team in the fast-paced cannabis industry.  Aurora is growing rapidly and to support our growth we are going to be deploying enterprise class technology based primarily on the Microsoft technology stack.  The Senior Cloud Architect will play a key role in the design and deployment of this infrastructure and applications.  The ideal candidate for this position has strong leadership skills and extensive technical experience designing enterprise level cloud infrastructure, is highly innovative, and enjoys working in a fast-paced team environment.




  • Utilize a variety of partners to assist with the design and architecture of infrastructure and applications
  • Contribute to the overall IS strategy as required    
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of technical related problems.    
  • Analyze existing systems to ensure they offer adequate security and are effectively meeting the needs of the organization. They coordinate with all areas of the organization to see that the system is working as optimally as it should. They also analyze business requirements to identify where they can integrate new hardware, operating systems, or connectivity solutions.
  • Based on their knowledge of IT and their analysis of the systems’ needs, recommend alternative technologies or improvements to enhance information systems to support organizational goals. These recommendations are presented clearly and understandably to senior management.
  • Leads the design and review processes for new systems. They develop and document the proposed technical design for the integration and implementation of any new software, working across the IT department.
  • Create detailed plans for the integration of new systems architecture into existing infrastructure. This includes logistical plans and providing technical direction and support for the Operational areas during the integration.
  • Participates in evaluating the success of the project, identifying best practices and lessons learned. They provide feedback to leadership and incorporate this information into future plans.




  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key business stakeholders and vendors

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt; maintain focus and a high degree of accuracy while working with complex data in an environment of ever-changing deadlines, priorities and requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and collaborate on projects
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Ability to work with business units and drive out requirements, and the technical solutions required to deliver business value  
  • Proven ability to maintain partnership with external vendors to increase value to internal business groups.  
  • Proven ability to provide a high-level of customer satisfaction




  • 15+ years of experience in the IT industry
  • 10+ years in an Architecture role working on large enterprise solutions
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in computer science or related field
  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows servers in large enterprises
  • Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory in large enterprises
  • Experience administering the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications
  • Experience administering mobile device management (MDM) software in large enterprises
  • Experience administering Microsoft Skype for Business in large enterprises
  • Experience imaging Windows 10 in large enterprises
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other cloud platforms in large enterprises
  • Experience in the design and deployment of Private and Hybrid Clouds in large enterprises
  • Strong design and documentation experience
  • Experience working with and presenting to senior management
  • Experience with cloud and on-premise technologies and building enterprise architecture roadmaps
  • Experience designing, integrating and managing complex infrastructure solutions
  • Knowledge of client-server networking and database management
  • Ability to provide technical system solutions, determine overall design direction and provide hardware recommendations for complex technical issues
  • Experience planning and developing support processes and adhering to best practices
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
  • Proven ability to work across IS and Business teams working in multiple locations
  • Experience with projects involving multi-disciplinary teams operating in a fast-paced, innovation driven environment
  • Knowledge of the emerging cannabis industry would be considered an asset 
  • Experience with designing solutions for overseas locations would be considered and asset
  • Linux experience is a benefit
  • Experience with projects involving multi-disciplinary teams operating in a fast-paced, innovation driven environment.
  • Knowledge of the emerging cannabis industry would be considered an asset.  
  • Microsoft certifications are considered an asset
  • Any one of the following Architecture Certifications is preferred but not required
    • TOGAF
    • CITA
    • Certified SOA Architect
