SENIOR MANAGER, INDIGENOUS RELATIONS

Reporting to the Director, Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility, the Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations will work closely with the Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility team in providing oversight and leadership in the development of constructive and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and their leaders. The successful candidate will be tasked with relationship building, detailed consultation, and collaboration with Indigenous communities. The incumbent will focus on developing and maintaining trust, strategic engagement planning and overseeing the execution of consultation and various initiatives.

The Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations will have extensive knowledge of the culture, history and intricacies of various Indigenous communities and have an exceptional ability to communicate effectively, maintain professionalism, and act as an ambassador of Aurora.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and oversee the strategy, design, implementation, and delivery of various Indigenous-focused initiatives and activities, with a strong focus on developing and maintaining trust with Indigenous communities
  • Build constructive and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and their leaders
  • Establish and monitor organizational performance in the implementation of Aurora’s Indigenous strategy including, but not limited to: effective community engagement, diversity and inclusion, education, establishing visible Indigenous presence within Aurora, and influencing processes at Aurora that serve Indigenous communities
  • Lead and contribute to the development of internal policies and processes to support Indigenous efforts
  • Oversee the coordination, planning and execution of programs and initiatives, community engagement activities, and consultation with Indigenous communities
  • Provide leadership to business partners as it relates to the involvement of Indigenous communities
  • Promote inclusion strategies of Indigenous people and businesses across the company
  • Act professionally and diplomatically as an ambassador of Aurora Cannabis with Indigenous communities, including participation in relevant professional associations and conferences

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Extensive knowledge of the culture, history and intricacies of various Indigenous communities
  • Proven experience building strong and effective relationships with Indigenous communities to enhance the equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives within Aurora
  • Ability to foster respectful community engagement through inclusive activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous communities
  • Ability to gain respect and build consensus among stakeholders including colleagues
  • Ability to analyze problems and provide creative solutions
  • Adaptable and flexible to a fast-paced, changing environment

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Social Science, Communications, International Relations, Indigenous studies or related discipline required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 7+ years of proven experience in a related role, building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to: Indigenous communities, Communications, Public Relations
  • 5+ years in a leadership role required
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong business acumen
  • Knowledge of the cannabis industry is a strong asset
