SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CULTIVATION

 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Vice President, Cultivation (“SVP Cultivation”) will lead all aspects of Aurora’s cultivation system at our world-class facilities, at both Canadian and International locations. Aurora has designed and built some of the most modern hybrid greenhouses across the globe, with faciilities located in Canada, Europe and South America. Aurora is in the process of completing the construction of several facilities, some of which are expected to span upwards of 1.6 million sq.ft with the intent to produce medical grade cannabis.

 

Through a matrix-reporting structure, the SVP Cultivation will provide oversight of plant production in our climate controlled indoor facilities and outdoor growing operations. The successful candidate will have significant experience in large-scale indoor (greenhouse) crop production, and a strong background in horticultural science and plant health. In addition to oversight of production activities, the SVP-Cultivation will focus on implementation of automated systems, climate and plant sensing, and other cultivation technology. This challenging role will require strong analytical capabilities, focused on enhancing and improving Aurora’s cultivation processes, and significant senior leadership skills to enable success in a rapidly growing, global corporate organization. The candidate will continuously acquire new industry knowledge, act with the highest level of integrity, and effectively communicate with all key stakeholders.

   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead the continuous improvement of cultivation processes throughout our indoor facilities and outdoor growing operations
  • Work with global cultivation teams to standardize and optimize cultivation practices and methodologies
  • Establish long-term cultivation forecasts and enhance cultivation performance metrics, creating visibility for Senior Management
  • Establish short and long-range department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Oversee facility forecast models, analyze trends, manage forecast tools, and ensure accurate data
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communications with operational teams to ensure alignment with cultivation capacities
  • Provide strategic input on plant science research

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Broad knowledge and excellent understanding of indoor agriculture and/or greenhouse production technology and methodologies
  • Proven understanding and knowledge of overall plant health in a climate controlled indoor facilities and outdoor growing operations
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt; maintain focus and a high degree of accuracy while working with complex working environments of ever-changing deadlines, priorities and requirements
  • Ability to operate strategically and/or operationally, as the situation requires
  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment.
  • Proactive ownership of cultivation functions
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to think strategically, problem solve and make quick decisions
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant science or related discipline; Master’s (or PhD) is preferred
  • Experience in hydroponic production and horticultural science
  • Minimum 10 years of production experience at indoor/greenhouse facilities of >10 hectares (1 million sq ft)
  • Senior leadership experience within a large corporate organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge in plant health including diagnosis and mitigation of nutrient status/deficiency and diseases/pests
  • Experience in the cannabis industry a definite asset
  • Ability to travel to Canadian and international locations on a regular basis
