SOLUTION ARCHITECT 

 

Aurora Cannabis is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to join our Information Services (IS) team in the fast-paced cannabis industry. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Architecture, the successful applicant will join the Aurora IS Architecture team and will work closely with several other IS and business teams. The ideal candidate for this position has strong leadership skills, relationship building skills, extensive technical experience designing enterprise level solutions, is highly innovative, and enjoys working in a fast-paced team environment.

 
Responsibilities:

  • Matching solutions with the corporate environment
    The solution architecture helps ensure that a new system will fit the existing enterprise environment by understanding how all parts of the business model work together including processes, operating systems, and application architectures. Understanding these processes, they will be able to design a specific solution that fits the environment best.
  • Meeting the requirements of all stakeholders
    Solution architecture’s aim is to ensure that the requirements of all stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, are taken into account. Stakeholders must be regularly informed about product development processes, costs, and budgeting. The solution architect translates technical details into a language that management and non-technical stakeholders can understand.
  • Selecting the technology stack
    A vital part of creating solution architecture is the selection of technologies for product development. The technical architecture strategy will directly depend on the chosen technology stack, and the solution architecture function is to find which of them will be the most suitable for a particular initiative. This will involve technology assessment and comparison.
  • Accounting for constraints
    Each initiative has its limitations or constraints such as technology, risks, scope, cost, quality, time, resources. The solution architect must understand all these constraints, compare them, and then make a number of technological and managerial decisions to reconcile these restrictions with goals of the work initiative.
  • The solution architect’s job focuses on solution-level decisions and analysis of their impact on the overall business goals and outcomes. The person’s responsibilities directly derive from processes in practice:
    • Analyzing the technology environment
    • Analyzing enterprise specifics
    • Analyzing and documenting requirements
    • Setting the collaboration framework
    • Creating a solution prototype
    • Participating in technology selection
    • Controlling solution development
    • Supporting project management

 

Skills and Experience:

  • IT architecture, infrastructure, and cloud development
  • Experience with Enterprise Service Bus solutions and Integration Platforms and they benefit a multi-SaaS environment
  • Strong business analysis experience
  • SaaS, ERP, and CRM integration experience
  • Strong project management experience
  • Strong and proven design and documentation experience
  • Experience working with and presenting to senior management
  • Experience planning and developing support processes and adhering to best practices
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
  • Proven ability to work across IS and business teams working in multiple locations
  • Experience with projects involving multi-disciplinary teams operating in a fast-paced, innovation driven environment
  • Knowledge of the emerging cannabis industry would be considered an asset 
  • Experience with designing solutions for overseas locations would be considered and asset

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in computer science or related field
  • 5+ years in a Solution Architecture Role
  • 15+ years’ experience in the IT industry
  • Any one of the following Architecture Certifications is preferred but not required
    • TOGAF
    • CITA
    • Certified SOA Architect
