Location: Markham, ON


Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the HVAC Technician will be located Markham, ON, at our Ridge facility. The HVAC Technician will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical and building infrastructure technicians supporting internal Propagation and Quality customers. The candidate must master climate systems and be skilled in utilizing heating and cooling equipment to meet production objectives and support healthy plant life. It is essential for the candidate to be organized, result oriented and have strong problem-solving skills. The candidate should have strong HVAC knowledge to help maintain and assist with troubleshooting and preventative measures and be available on call after hours as required to respond to emergencies.

  • Diagnosing root causes of equipment breakdowns, testing parts with appropriate instruments, disassembling and assembling parts, and making necessary repairs.
  • Learning and mastering climate control software (PRIVA) to support healthy plant life and optimize systems to improve yields.
  • Studying building schematics and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Locating and marking position of pipe and/or duct connections and passage holes for same in walls and floors and then cutting openings to accommodate pipe and/or duct fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Utilizing and creating reports using BAS system data to maximize equipment efficiency.
  • Responding to automated fault detection system and provide advice or directly support corrective measures.
  • Providing internal customer support services to ensure the automation systems meet their performance targets.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training or knowledge sharing.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • 3+ years working on large scale industrial HVAC systems.
  • Journeyman Red Seal HVAC certification.
  • College diploma in HVAC or related disciplines.
  • Experience with climate control methods balancing humidity, temperature and air quality challenged by constant changing external conditions.
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with CMMS software such as FIIX, DIMO or SAP would be an asset.
  • Build/maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Able to work in a Health Canada facility.
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Experience working in a production facility with GMP standards.
  • Experience working in an environment regulated by Health Canada also considered an asset.
  • Experience with adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of a wide variety of filter mediums.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use time effectively in order to set action plans to achieve various business targets.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or People Space heating and cooling systems.
  • Ability to establish excellent business relationships with key suppliers, business associates and stakeholders and start up new general systems in cooperation with vendors.
  • Relentless pursuit of learning and growth in the world of industrial automation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary team and diverse internal and external customers/suppliers.
  • Able to follow and uphold standard operating procedures precisely and consistently; accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations.
  • Experience in responding to complex situations with competing interests and resolving issues positively.
  • Operational excellence and continuous improvement oriented; safety minded and able to follow strict safety protocols at all times.
