We’re searching for a talented professional to join our team as a Technician, Product Development. In this role, you will focus on the development of novel edible and formulated oil products for our Consumer and Medical channels in Canada and around the world. As the Technician, Product Development you will…

  • Develop novel flavours and formulations of various cannabis product formats, with a specific focus on gummies and ingestible oils
  • Identify and source ingredients to bring product concepts to life at a pilot scale in collaboration with Aurora’s Procurement group
  • Apply scientific methods and principles to develop and validate formulations that meet specifications for consumer/patient appeal and regulatory and quality requirements
  • Perform qualitative analysis of product samples, process and analyze data and present and discuss results in team meetings
  • Maintain the quality and availability of routine reagents, standards, and other materials required to carry out daily activities
  • Draft test procedures and prepare documentation for R&D and scale-up trials that are compliant and align with the needs of Operations and Quality Assurance teams
  • Collaborate with Category team and stakeholders to develop and write SOPs and other documentation required to launch and manufacture new products
  • Report on projects as needed by the Product Development team and other parts of the business
  • Contribute towards general lab operations such as coordinating required maintenance, calibration, and qualification of instruments
     

As an experienced professional, you will have…

  • A strong passion for the cannabis industry and products (this will precede all other requirements)
  • A B.Sc in Food Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or B.Eng, or other relevant scientific discipline (these credentials appear to match the candidate profile we are looking for but we’re ready to be convinced otherwise)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in cannabis (medical or recreational), pharma industries or a related field
  • Expertise utilizing analytical chemistry instrumentation (HPLC-UV, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS) techniques (we would also welcome an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
     

It would be an asset if you have…

  • Practical experience in analytical method development and validation for small molecules, particularly in the context of phytochemistry, natural products chemistry, or environmental toxicology
  • Knowledge of regulations or experience working in a regulated industry
