Located in Saskatoon, SK, this position will manage the operations of Aurora’s breeding and genetics research at our CanniMed location. Working with the Breeding and Genetics team in BC and the Aurora Sciences group more broadly, this role is responsible managing the daily operations of breeding and genetics research, production staff and research projects. This will include coordinating the establishment of breeding trails, and genetic experiments, the collection of tissue, and the harvesting and phenotyping of those trails. 


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Organize daily operations: deal with technical aspects pertaining to cultivation (following schedule, task delegation, monthly plant inventory, ordering bio-controls, etc.) in coordination with cultivation staff
  • Scheduling: daily activities/tasks pertaining to plant propagation, growth, etc. based on schedules.
  • Onsite liaison for CRO’s which require access to R&D Cultivation rooms
  • Report writing and SOP revisions as necessary.
  • Ensure smooth execution of all routine tasks in the propagation and growing of plants (cuttings, transplants, irrigation and bio-control application):  all materials/tools available for activity, all activities are properly documented on cycle tracking sheets and all activities are carried out in accordance to SOP's.
  • Monitor and diagnose plant disease and nutrient deficiency
  • Planning and coordination of research activities including: setup, data collection, weighing, paperwork, clean-up.
  • Organize facility cleaning and sanitation: organize chamber changeover cleaning and maintenance and ensure corresponding paperwork is complete.
  • Staffing: coordinate staffing requirements
  • Responsible for all cycle paperwork: ensure that assistants are making proper daily tracking of all plants and environmental conditions.
  • Waste documentation and coordinating disposal.
  • Inventory: maintain inventory of cultivation consumables and submit inventory orders to purchasers.
  • Calibration of scales and meters.
  • Coordinate weekend watering shifts as required.
  • Other duties as assigned




  • Scientific background, holding a MSc in plant biology, plant science, horticulture or related field
  • Very organized, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to do detailed and routine work and show initiative
  • Excellent computer skills
  • A “get things done” attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment is crucial
