Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor (12 Month Term)

 

The incumbent will report directly to the Vice President of Quality and will be responsible for the following:

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to quality control employees by providing work direction, scheduling, performance feedback, and recommendation for training and development
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Perform administrative duties, such as invoice review and approval, as required
  • Define objectives, identify and evaluate trends and options, choose a course of action, and evaluate outcomes
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as required
  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
  • Facilitate and lead meetings
  • Ensure a safe and secure work environment
  • Organize and facilitate multi-disciplinary projects both at the site and inter-site levels
  • Represent the QC department in multi-departmental / site meetings
  • Develop and implement new quality / analytical procedures
  • Continuous improvement of quality / analytical procedures
  • Track metrics around compliance and efficiency and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality
  • Oversee all quality control/analytical related projects
  • Oversee the development of all department SOPs and related forms to GMP standards and USP/ EU compliance
  • Lead the development / change of analytical testing specifications for controlled/raw materials and finished products
  • Oversee and review / approve deviations, OOS and failure investigations; assign and implement effective CAPA.
  • Review and approve site protocols relevant to QC
  • Review and approve analytical method transfer, qualification and/or validation documents
  • Oversee sampling and testing of raw / controlled materials and cannabis products
  • Oversee calibration / maintenance of laboratory equipment as per established schedule and SOPs
  • Oversee and support troubleshooting of equipment/equipment failures
  • Review, approve and report analytical results
  • Review and approve log books and other documentation containing raw data
  • Oversee laboratory training program and internal audits
  • Attend and participate in meetings
  • All other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum B.Sc. degree in an applicable discipline of science (chemistry, biochemistry, biology or related) with a minimum of 4-5 years related industrial experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • Team facilitation/leadership skills with a commitment to team development
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment (e.g. HPLC, GC, and ICP) and knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Proficient in scientific technical writing
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to an evolving environment
  • Knowledge of GMP and regulations for manufacturing pharmaceutical products considered an asset
  • Knowledge of cannabis regulations considered an asset
  • Project management experience considered an asset
