Associate Manager, Group Benefits Advisor Relations


Reporting to the Senior Director of Market Access and Payer Relations, this role is responsible for the acquisition, development, growth, and maintenance of group benefit insurance brokerage/consulting relations. This role will have accountability for the execution of preferred partnership agreements, across Canada, to facilitate the rapid and optimal patient access to Aurora’s full product portfolio for broker/consultant network clients to achieve the organization’s medical sales objectives.  




50% - Securing Market Partnerships with Group Benefit Brokers and Consultants

  • Supporting the Senior Manager, Market Access and Payer Relations in the development, maintenance, and utilization of contacts with group benefit plan brokers and consultants, across Canada, as a partner to secure preferred provider status of Aurora medical products for employer group benefit plans
  • Develop business plans for executing group benefit advisor partnerships to meet Aurora medical sales objectives
  • Responsible for educating and demonstrating the value of Aurora medical cannabis products to brokers and consultant that will secure the addition of Aurora medical products to the group benefit plans for their clients and facilitate the reimbursement
  • Manage national brokers and consultants from a compensation, compliance, event, and needs perspective
  • Work collaboratively with Finance AR team and Legal on compensation for B2B preferred provider agreements and contracts with brokers and consultants
  • Understand benefit offering to group insurance accounts to provide enrollment material and client communications as required
  • Demonstrate excellent relationship management and networking skills with strong business management capabilities (business plans, metrics, understanding of business drivers) in the group benefit broker/consulting industry
  • Manage existing broker relationships including and build the network
  • Generation of new business development through acquisition and prospects of new brokers/ business partnership opportunities
  • Monitor client sales performance (retention, loss ratio and growth) metrics
  • Build relationships and business plans with brokers with mutually beneficial objectives, negotiations, and consequential actions
  • Attend industry broker and consultant events to demonstrate the value of an Aurora B2B partnership
  • Develop and provide medical cannabis education, training, tools, guides, and other resources and information as required to support preferred partnership broker activities for their clients with the outcome of developing new business opportunities
  • Maintain knowledge of current market trends and competitive landscape changes


30% - Negotiating Preferred Provider Agreements with Group Benefit Brokers and Consultants


  • Assist the Senior Manager, Market Access and Payer Relations in negotiating the terms of preferred provider agreements with Group Benefit Brokers and Consultants
  • Manage the approval process of all B2B contract documents from pre-contract through to post signatory phases with the legal teams from both parties
  • Assist with contract drafting
  • Update existing contracts as required
  • Update information and documentation pertinent to provider agreements
  • Ensure provider compliance with contract terms and legal and regulatory compliance regulations
  • Ensure broker/consultant organizational compliance with contract terms


20% - Managing Services and Claims Reimbursement from Broker/Consultant Clients


  • Foster and maintain productive relationships with group benefit plan advisors
  • Respond to complex inquiries and/or claims issues from advisors
  • Manage client and/or broker issues proactively
  • Provide assistance to client care and other internal Aurora teams, as required, whenever claims issues related to broker clients are escalated
  • Arrange periodic service calls with group benefit advisors to discuss and promote the benefit of Aurora medical products and services

  • Post-secondary education in business or related field required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ insurance related experience, or a combination of education and sales experience
  • Group Benefit Plan experience and knowledge
  • Previous knowledge and experience with medical cannabis regulations and access in Canada is preferred
  • Prior expertise in the insurance industry (sales, underwriting, operations) is required
  • Understanding of employee health benefits and RFP process is required
  • Strong collaborator and ability to create stakeholder trust at different levels with brokers and consultants across Canada
