DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

The Communications team is an essential partner to the business and we are seeking a dynamic Director of Communications. Reporting to the VP, Communications and Public Relations, the Director of Communications will play a leadership role in our organization and most especially, the Communications team, ensuring effective and successful delivery of the department’s strategic plan and talent development. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement an external communication strategy that effectively builds and promoted Aurora’s leadership and reputation
  • Develop fulsome communications materials to support effective message delivery, representing the dynamics of the global business
  • Work in partnership with teams and leaders across all business units to deliver on a reputational agenda for Aurora
  • Support business unit executive level leaders with advice and counsel on communication practices, and the development of presentations, remarks and other communication as needed
  • Oversee execution of communications strategies and programs across lines of business and geographies to ensure alignment with strategic focus, consistency, quality and measurability
  • Effectively support effective issues management with precision
  • Continuously enhance the services of the Communications team to respond to Aurora’s market growth and competitive environment
  • Actively coach and counsel members of the team to achieve business objectives and individual development
  • Other duties as required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Cannabis industry knowledge
  • Outstanding communication, analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a proven track record of building effective relationships with senior executives and business unit heads
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence desired outcomes among senior-level internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience leveraging media relations to effectively drive business objectives
  • A strategic mindset with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement communications plans in multiple jurisdictions
  • Well-developed business acumen
  • Deep working knowledge of regional, national and international media segments
  • Ability to think and work at pace and to successfully balance execution against a defined strategy with the need to be flexible as opportunities are presented
  • Skill/diplomacy in dealing with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Bilingualism is a strong asset

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years of progressive senior leadership experience in Communications and change management, within a global growth-oriented environment
  • 8+ years of progressive senior leadership experience overseeing a large, diversified team of Communications professionals, with a proven track record of attracting, retaining and developing a high performing, service-oriented team
