DIRECTOR, CONSUMER INNOVATION

 

Aurora is recruiting a Director, Consumer Innovation to join our unique environment, developing strategies and roadmaps for innovation. The Director will act as an advocate for innovation and guides the development, recommendation and implementation of new or changed policy, proactive innovations, new lines of business and partnerships. Reporting to the Vice President, Consumer and Retail Strategy, the successful candidate will have senior leadership experience in supporting and implementing innovation and development in a large and complex environment, and the ability to set the vision for the future of a sustainable organization and translate that vision into strategies and actions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Working with product development team, leads the ideation, development and commercialization of a pipeline of recreational cannabis products for Canada and potential global markets;
  • With the support of the Consumer Insights & Analytics team and product development team, bring new and innovative product ideas from ideation to commercialization.
  • Strong ability to bring innovative ideas from the “fuzzy front end” into fruition utilizing white space identification and new product commercialization knowledge;
  • Work with M&A and product development teams on identifying and vetting third party partners, where required, to assist with product development and commercialization
  • Responsible for establishing road mapping and search fields by having a strong corporate foresight and utilizing knowledge of market trends, consumer needs, technologies and products.
  • Develop insights-based product innovation roadmap, both short term (<2 year out) and long term (3-5 years out);
  • Under your leadership, build and lead team who will be responsible for driving the innovation. agenda forward through to launch;
  • Work closely with Marketing, R&D, Operations, Sales and Finance on the development of business cases, with the end goal of presenting winning opportunities;
  • Work closely with senior leaders to define and develop an innovation system and associated capabilities
  • Ensure high levels of stakeholder engagement throughout the innovation process, and ensure high degree of communication is maintained throughout the process;
  • Have a deep understanding of the business, brands, products, services and channels;
  • Oversee the adoption and use of standard tools and process (e.g. creative brief);
  • Lead all aspects of the product innovation pipeline;
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and new revenue streams;
  • Expand the use of marketing data analytics to improve reach, awareness and consideration;
  • Uses knowledge of business and data to discover and/or anticipate problems and opportunities where data can be leveraged to address the need;
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to develop a cohesive and comprehensive understanding of our key business drivers;
  • Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication with executive leadership;
  • Demonstrates ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information to a variety of audiences;
  • Produce strategic partnership reviews for the executive team and board presentations;
  • May act as a mentor to colleagues.
  • Other duties as required


 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree an asset
  • 10+ years of experience in product development, product management, or related innovation roles
  • Familiarity with Health Canada Regulations and or Good Manufacturing Principles an asset
  • Innovation experience from a pharmaceutical and/or manufacturing company preferred
  • Proactive, self-starter, fast mover and passionate
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work quickly and with limited supervision
  • Superior ability to work cross-functionally
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical other innovation-driven environments an asset
  • Financial Management experience is a must
  • Leadership skills and qualities
  • Project Management experience is considered an asset
  • Strategic thinking
  • High level of Problem Solving and Analytical skills
  • Established reputation as a leader, consultant, and spokesperson for innovation
