GRAPHIC DESIGNER

 

Aurora Cannabis is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our Toronto communications team. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role involves working on a wide variety of products and activities within the Corporate Affairs unit, which is made up of Communications, Investor Relations, Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility. The work will include overseeing and developing the overall design of the company’s Intranet. The ideal candidate will be able to develop appropriate creative ideas and concepts, execute graphics, charts and figures as required, and understand modern user experience when it comes to content, and work quickly and efficiently. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working in collaboration with the internal communications team, oversee the overall design and individual page design development of the company’s intranet as it grows, ensuring a consistent structure, look and feel to individual pages, intelligent and proper navigation throughout
  • Design weekly staff newsletter
  • Review and enhance all content that originates from the Communications department; create and enhance presentations, briefs, decks, graphics, charts, posters, multimedia and other content as required
  • Create and maintain files for all creative assets and resources, such as software, art materials, and special fonts
  • Work in collaboration with the entire Corporate Affairs unit, as required
  • Assist in creating proper production processes to ensure top-quality work
  • Operate within existing deadlines, tracking and managing multiple projects
  • Create concepts, mock-ups, layouts and final art, as required

 

KNOWELDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to create, access and edit digital images using several peripherals with exceptional attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and have an excellent understanding of graphic design principles and industry standard software including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) on a PC & Mac platform
  • Knowledge of pre-press setups, printing and publishing processes and web design requirements are essential
  • Knowledge of multi-media applications and transfer of graphic design products to web-based formats, video, film, etc. is essential
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, design and produce branded material
  • Oversee all phases of production by coordinating and managing projects with internal and external clients, as well as printers and suppliers, if needed;
  • Maintain the corporate brand, the brand structure, as well as other various corporate identities;
  • Develop materials keeping in mind communication strategies and target audience attributes;
  • Work as a part of the Communications team to provide unique insight and original visual solutions; provide quality outcomes to the communication needs of clients;
  • Work with client to discuss needs, develop design briefs by gathering information and data to clarify design issues, and presenting concepts to clients;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide creative and artistic skills to overall look and feel of web sites

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • 3+ years experience working with traditional and digital media
  • Agency experience preferred
  • University or College Degree (preferably in graphic design)
  • High level of proficiency in In-Design/Photoshop/Illustrator
  • Knowledge of other Adobe CS suite of programmes
  • Capable of making long or short videos quickly
  • Web development knowledge and experience (HTML, CSS, CMS -- Sharepoint is a strong asset)
  • Experience working to a brief and deadline and conforming to existing brand guidelines
  • Knowledge of best practices and specs for traditional and digital advertising (including social media)
  • Ability to effectively manage workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated to maintain and improve design standards; has a strong sense of classical design skills (typography and colours)
  • Willing to listen to feedback and incorporate suggestions in order to improve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
