MANAGER, INNOVATION

Aurora is recruiting a Manager, Innovation to join our unique environment, supporting the development strategies and roadmaps for innovation. Reporting to the Senior Director, Innovation, the successful candidate will have leadership experience in supporting and implementing innovation and development in a large, complex environment, and the ability to translate our vision of a sustainable organization into strategies and actions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and commercializes a multi-year pipeline of cannabis products for Canada and potential global markets.
  • With the support of the Consumer Research & Insights, Sales Analytics and Product Development teams, creates and manages project plans to guide innovation development from ideation through in-market commercialization, including concept, development, positioning, financials, go-to-market plans.
  • Simultaneously manages multiple projects that vary in size, scope and difficulty (from new to world projects through format and pack innovation).
  • Works closely with Marketing, R&D, Operations, Sales and Finance to develop category and competitive business assessments, navigating data to distill insights; equally able to use intuition when data is not available.
  • Utilize knowledge of market trends, key business drivers and technologies to evaluate new business opportunities and new revenue streams, anticipating problems and opportunities where data can be leveraged to address the need.
  • Initiate consumer research to identify consumer white space opportunities, and to validate innovation ideas.
  • Works with M&A and product development teams to identify and vet third party partners, where required to assist with product development and commercialization.
  • Ensure high levels of stakeholder engagement and communication maintained throughout the innovation process.
  • Have a deep understanding of the business, brands, products, services and channels.
  • May act as a mentor to colleagues.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree an asset
  • 5+ years of experience an innovation role, new business development or product development
  • Experience in pharmaceuticals an asset
  • Proven ability as an agile, hands-on leader of cross-functional teams with a passion for creative innovation
  • Experience managing complex projects involving multiple resources and channels
  • Proactive, self-starter, passionate, fast mover
  • Financial acumen to create viable business cases, including P&L analysis, forecasting, category analysis
  • High level of strategic problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Familiarity with common consumer marketing research techniques and tools
  • Strong brand management skills, from concept to positioning to launch plans
  • Familiarity with Health Canada Regulations and or Good Manufacturing Principles an asset
  • Experience working in a start-up environment an asset
