Reporting to the Chief Corporate Officer, the Senior Vice President, Global Government Relations will be involved in leading and developing the company’s global, federal, provincial, and municipal government practices in collaboration with the Canadian and Global government relations team. The incumbent will oversee the implementation, management, and coordination of government relations, advocacy initiatives, and partnership development, with a focus on leveraging global relationships to identify key government partners, opportunities and working on risk mitigation strategies for business expansion. This successful candidate will drive global initiatives within the legal cannabis industry through developing relationships with key elected officials and policymakers, market assessment, and corporate strategy.

The SVP, Global Government Relations will demonstrate significant senior leadership experience and successfully negotiate the Government Relations initiatives, both domestically and internationally. The candidate will have strong analytical capabilities, is an effective communicator, and possess the highest level of integrity.


  • Develop Global, Federal, Provincial, and Municipal government relations strategies and programs to educate, promote, and lobbying efforts with key elected government officials, policymakers and key stakeholders
  • Track the development in cannabis legislation around the globe and advising the Senior Leadership team on key developments, including research on pending legislation, policy developments, trends and regulatory enforcement actions
  • Oversee and coordinate all government affairs activities both domestically and internationally, as directed and identified by the Senior Leadership team
  • Work alongside the Senior Leadership team, acting as an ambassador and facilitator of Government affairs and serve as a key company contact for Governmental affairs issues
  • Foster and sustain relationships with elected officials, government administration and industry professionals
  • Support the development of corporate positioning that enhances the company’s vision and business direction and builds internal/public support and advocacy
  • Lead corporate functions to develop and advocate dedicated policy positions and execute corrective legislative and regulatory strategies
  • Lead a high performing team of both domestic and international Government Relations professionals


  • Extensive communication skills, particularly for resolving complex matters that can seriously impact the corporate reputation and profitability of the company.
  • A proven track record of having built and leveraged relationships of strong trust, respect and understanding with key stakeholders, particularly in the public sector
  • Highly skillful in producing quality written communication
  • Able to foster positive brand recognition for Aurora Cannabis through development of effective communication strategies and meaningful business partnerships
  • Creative problem-solving skills in untested areas of law and policy
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to set a vision and lead change
  • Successful experience with strategy development and communications, identifying opportunities and acting on them
  • Strong management skills including performance management, planning, prioritization, objective setting and plan execution. Ability to organize and prioritize both at the strategic and tactical level, utilizing strong time management skills and capable of balancing multiple and constantly changing needs and schedules
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Political Science, Communications or related discipline; preference will be given to applicants with a Master’s Degree.
  • A minimum 15+ years’ of progressive Government Relations experience, preference will be given to candidates with international experience or those in a heavily regulated industry
  • Bilingual, English and French preferred (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis industry is considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated strategic and business planning expertise
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex issues in clear and concise terms
  • Proven track record of creating a culture of success and ongoing global business and goal achievement
