Sr. Creative Manager – Packaging and Design, 1 Year Contract
 
The Sr. Creative Manager – Packaging and Design, will be responsible for creative strategy and development of packaging solutions to meet the diverse needs of our consumers and business. The ideal candidate will help pave the way for best in class packaging for our diverse brand portfolio and wide range of high-quality cannabis products. In this role the Sr. Creative Manager will research, develop and collaborate cross-functionally to develop effective and efficient packaging and hardware solutions for optimal consumer experience and brand impact within the regulations. 


This role will report to the Senior Director, Marketing.
 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
•    Leads structural packaging and label design projects to drive brand and consumer impact in a highly regulated environment
•    Manages and implements new packaging processes to improve workflows, tracking, and efficiencies as necessary
•    Coordinates and conducts packaging design development to ensure product performance parameters are met; inclusive of packaging regulations, consumer impact, merchantability and innovation
•    Prepares and delivers presentations and ensures effective communication and problem-solving surrounding project status, progress, issues, solutions, timelines and accountability
•    Develops a network of internal contacts and qualified suppliers/resources for the purpose of packaging innovation
•    Remain up to date on state-of-the-art processes and forecasting surrounding new material substrates, graphic trends, innovation, and sustainability
•    A primary point of contact with facilities, engineering, and operations to ensure understanding of line automation and potential in-line limitations in relation to packaging
•    Review structural packaging materials to identify and mitigate potential gaps and risks to consumer experience and brand
•    Work closely with the Category Management Team to identify quick turn solutions supporting speed-to-market innovations and line extensions
•    Review and provide feedback regarding regulatory compliance to Marketing and Sales
•    Leads external vendors and internal teams on development of packaging innovations for product launches and extensions
•    Leverage consumer and competitive insights to inform design recommendations
•    Manage provincial packaging photography requests as required
•    Remain abreast of applicable rules and regulations in the cannabis industry
•    Manage a team of designers to deliver effective, quality solutions on time and on budget
•    Management of label and packaging creative applications, from concept to design adaptation, and execution
•    Other duties and responsibilities as required. 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
•    Minimum 5 – 7 years’ experience in conceptual product/packaging development or related discipline, ideally in CPG
•    Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or equivalent
•    The ideal candidate must possess a strong background in CPG and/or retail experience specific to packaging
•    Ideally has a solid understanding of the laws, rules and regulations applicable to the cannabis industry, with the ability to quickly learn and enforce regulatory compliancy
•    Must also provide a strong comprehension of the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act
•    High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
•    Ability to take a consumer-centric design approach while having a keen eye on production processes and operational efficiency is a must
•    Experience leading a highly motivated, and creative team through a quickly changing landscape
•    Understanding of design thinking methodology 
•    Highly motivated, approachable, self-directed, entrepreneurial, innovative and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense and resourcefulness
•    Comfortable working with ambiguity and adaptable within a demanding, fast-paced environment
•    Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity
