Senior Manager - Government Relations - Canada

 

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is currently growing its Government Relations team!

Reporting to the Canada Director of Government Relations, we are seeking a Government Relations Senior Manager who will be responsible for helping our company meet legislative and policy goals with all levels of governments in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders, from within and outside of the sector, about the development of legislation, regulations and government approaches in one of the world’s most heavily regulated spaces.
  • Support and manage the development and implementation of lobbying strategies, including the drafting of letters, submissions and presentations, and direct contact with legislators and regulators.
  • Directly lobby elected officials and civil servants on a variety of industry-related issues, including taxation, exports and retail business.
  • Identify, analyze, and track legislation and regulations throughout the provinces within which our business operates.
  • Participate in business and industry groups focused on federal and provincial legislative activity.
  • Leveraging convincing and advanced communications tools to develop, write, and edit government relations content for Aurora publications and campaigns.
  • Assist in the development of agendas, edited materials, as well as help conduct meetings and periodic conference calls of relevant Aurora committees, especially with public sector experts.

 

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Business, political science, communications or related discipline seems to match the profile of the person that we’re looking for but we’re ready to be convinced otherwise.
  • If you’re a team player and have 4 years’ experience in a related government relations role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, then we’re likely to be better convinced about your skills and track record.
  • Deep understanding of government processes and factors that influence decision-making will round out your profile nicely. Experience in lobbying government or government relations is big plus for this job. If you have witnessed and influenced the coalface of change in government, we probably want to hear from you.
  • Do you have experience communicating complex issues in clear, straightforward terms that invite discussion and debate? Convincing others to make a difference that matters is what we do every day. Show us your excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation).
  • Direct experience with corporate social responsibility issues would be valued in this role. Our sector is helping to push forward social and racial equity objectives all the time.
  • Knowledge of the cannabis industry is considered a strong asset but is not required.

  • You need to have a demonstrated ability to quickly adapt. If you can maintain focus and a high degree of accuracy while working with complex data in an environment of ever-changing deadlines, priorities and requirements, then this is the challenging environment for you.
