Reporting to the Senior Director of Tax and Treasury, the Director, Tax will oversee and ensure compliance with provincial and federal tax law through a series of systems and controls designed to ensure accuracy and timely reporting. The successful incumbent will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations and make appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate will ensure the success of the team and be responsible to build and maintain the appropriate internal and external relationships and manage the cooperation with external tax authorities from both Federal and Provincial levels.



  • Prepare and oversee company corporate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timely filing of all tax forms
  • Develops and proposes strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and provincial taxes
  • Oversees the compliance process and review of tax returns and other related filings
  • Communicates and researches regulatory tax developments to management and creates strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
  • Oversee quarterly tax accounting
  • Responsible for ensuring that all accounting entries relevant to the functions noted above are recorded accurately and in accordance with the applicable accounting standards
  • Provide financial guidance and expertise to the corporate group and the business units as required
  • Develop, implement and review processes to ensure they comply with Aurora policies, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Reviews and contributes to the development and implementation of company-wide policies and procedures within the accounting team and across functional lines
  • Organizes and controls year-end processes and reporting activities, including system and year-end audits



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; preference given to those with a master’s degree
  • Professional Accounting Designation required (CPA,CA)
  • 8-10 years of corporate accounting experience
  • 6-8 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity
  • Experience with corporate tax audits by the CRA is required
  • Extensive Canadian corporate tax knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt; maintain focus and a high degree of accuracy while working with complex data in an environment of ever-changing deadlines, priorities and requirements
  • Results-oriented, process driven leader with deep accounts payable experience; demonstrated experience implementing best practice payables key metrics for transactional excellence and delivered improvements to metrics
  • Self-motivated and customer focused
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Time management and follow-up skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and collaborate on projects
