The cornerstone of this research is the Cannabis Innovation Center located in Comox British Columbia. This research facility includes over 10,000 square feet of laboratory/research space and a 22,500 square foot purpose designed greenhouse. This greenhouse will be used for breeding work, seed production and experimental productions. The greenhouse manager will lead the cultivation effort to deliver healthy, productive grows and meet the needs of the different research and breeding operations. One aspect of this will also be carrying out independent research to optimize grows both for research objectives as well as to optimize inputs and reduce costs.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate plants and ensure optimal growth from seeding to harvest including responsibility for irrigation, fertigation, lighting, pest control and greenhouse automation
  • Work with all project leads to manage the scheduling of plant cultivation and harvest
  • Carry out and assist with cultivation and breeding experiments, including plant phenotyping
  • Create an environment that is not favorable to plant pathogens through the use of biocontrols, plant density and care, and environmental parameters
  • Control environmental conditions through the Priva monitoring and control system
  • Pre-emptively apply approved pesticides, when appropriate, to reduce pathogen pressure
  • Monitor plant health and greenhouse environmental conditions and respond accordingly
  • Organize and manage cultivation supplies inventory (including chemicals and pesticides)
  • Plan supply and equipment purchases for the cultivation group
  • Maintain a quality assurance program (Good Production Practices) along with SOPs for major plant cultivation procedures
  • Provide training on plant care, cultivation protocols and SOPs
  • Comply with safety and other regulatory standards, meet or exceed compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Input on any new construction or modification on existing sites
  • Work with and manage labour in the greenhouse.
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Develop and share methods and protocols to encourage improved plant health
  • Stay up to date on plant cultivation techniques and equipment



  • Scientific background, holding a MSc or PhD in horticulture, plant science, botany, or related field
  • 3-5 years experience managing a commercial greenhouse
  • Experience with horticultural science, plant breeding and/or genetics research
  • Experience in inventory management and labour coordination
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A “get things done” attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment is crucial
