MANAGER, TAX

 

Reporting to the Director of Tax and Finance, the Manager, Tax will oversee and ensure compliance with provincial and federal tax law through a series of systems and controls designed to ensure accuracy and timely reporting. The successful incumbent will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations and make appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate will ensure the success of the team and be responsible to build and maintain the appropriate internal and external relationships and manage the cooperation with external tax authorities from both Federal and Provincial levels.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the IFRS tax provision preparation process and provide value-added analysis in managing quarterly consolidated tax provision, uncertain tax positions and external reporting requirements
  • Manage the process for the Group’s Canadian income tax filings, and elections which are prepared by the company’s external tax advisors;
  • Structure novel transactions to ensure alignment with relevant tax jurisprudence;
  • Support global tax operations, continuous improvement initiatives, tax projects or planning initiatives, as well as other tax related matters as needed;
  • Assist in analyzing global income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax impacts of non-routine business or corporate development initiatives;
  • Prepare and/or review transfer pricing studies, reports, income tax returns, foreign reporting, tax authority communication; manage on-going audits;
  • Ensure that new developments in tax are conveyed to the appropriate people in the company and that processes are developed to ensure that the company is in compliance with laws and regulations;
  • Assist in responding to queries from internal/external/government auditors;
  • Provides support to the Director, Tax and Finance in the responsibility and accountability for global tax planning and compliance matters;
  • Other projects as required;

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least four years of applicable experience working in a large, complex, multi-national company or major accounting firm
  • In-depth knowledge in the areas of corporate taxation and tax accounting is required.
  • Knowledge of indirect tax are assets
  • Bachelor’s degree and CPA designation
  • Completion of, or currently working through the CICA In-Depth Tax Courses
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers
  • Ability to interface with many international sites to establish strong working relationships and cooperation
  • Ability to adapt to a fast pace and ever-changing environment.
