Research Administrator, Genetics


The Research Administrator will play a critical role in continued excellence of the Aurora Breeding and Genetics lab in Vancouver. The candidate must be experienced in molecular biology, genetics and plant biology. The incumbent will be expected to make contributions to ongoing research projects, manage procurement of laboratory consumables and equipment, coordinate lab maintenance with third-party providers, and take on general administrative tasks. The Research Administrator will also oversee development of standard operating procedures, and play a role in ensuring lab processes are compliant with applicable regulations. Additionally, the Research Administrator will coordinate shipping and receiving of samples and will be responsible for processing samples for molecular testing. Exceptional organizational skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is also required.



  • Extensive experience and knowledge of plant molecular biology and genetics, and plant cultivation for research
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to track and report on research projects
  • Awareness of compliance within a regulated laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of laboratory IT infrastructure
  • Skilled with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must meet timelines for third parties, intra-company transfers, and experimental deadlines


Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Plant Science, Botany or Horticulture, or closely related field, with 3 years of lab experience, OR MSc in Plant Science, or closely related field
  • Experience managing research materials and information, including sample archiving, freezer inventories, protocol records, and reagent/consumable ordering
  • Knowledge of Health Canada regulations (Cannabis Act) is an asset
  • Willing to relocate to Vancouver if needed
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
