RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, PLANT TISSUE CULTURE (8-MONTH CONTRACT)

 

We are looking for a technically oriented individual to join our Plant Tissue Culture team as a Research Associate. The research associate will be responsible for helping to maintain our current genetics archive as well as supporting R&D and cannabis production at Aurora’s facilities. This will involve working collaboratively with the Plant Tissue Culture team and independently managing assigned research projects.

Please note this is an 8-month Maternity Leave Coverage position.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform plant tissue culture procedures aseptically in a sterile work environment;
  • Maintain and expand tissue culture collection using routine micropropagation techniques;
  • Monitor overall plant health in culture collection;
  • Troubleshoot when necessary to optimize culture growth and address problems immediately to reduce contamination;
  • Develop and execute novel research techniques in the field of plant tissue culture with a high level of independence;
  • Monitor and report on the progress of assigned research projects;
  • Record all data in laboratory notebooks and computer databases;
  • Perform cleaning and/or calibration of lab equipment;
  • Empty and wash glassware, tissue culture jars and utensils;
  • Contribute to overall lab organization and tidiness;
  • Comply with safety and other regulatory standards;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in Plant Biology or other related field;
  • A minimum of three years of laboratory experience;
  • Knowledge of plant tissue culture, with focus on plant micropropagation techniques;
  • Experience working under GPP, GMP or GLP is an asset;
  • Ability to perform daily repetitive tasks using hand manipulations;
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong witten and verbal communication skills;
  • Self-motivated, creative individual able to work well in a team environment; and
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
