TECHNICIAN, CULTIVATION

 

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Lead Scientist, Genetics, the main role of Technician, Cultivation will be to help preserve plant health by maintaining the cultivation room irrigation system and sanitation. The successful candidate will work together with science experts to assist in state-of-the-art Cannabis breeding and genetics research. We are looking for an organized, hard-working individual who works well under a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate plants and ensure optimal growth from seedling/clone to harvest
  • Assist in the recognition and response of plant pathogens and pests
  • Maintain plant health through pruning and transplanting
  • Maintain plant cultivation room irrigation system
  • Prepare fertilizer, media, buffers, and solutions
  • Manage sanitation and cleanliness of the plant cultivation room
  • Assist in maintaining plant room consumable and plant inventory
  • Assist Plant Breeding group with collection and analysis of breeding and phenotypic data as needed
  • Maintain and organize data using software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. as needed
  • Record data in laboratory notebook and computer databases
  • Assess and help make improvements to the plant cultivation room as needed
  • Comply with company safety, regulatory standards and SOPs
  • Contribute to overall lab organization and tidiness
  • Aid Breeding and Genetics team members in other duties as needed/assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A minimum of BSc or technical certificate in Plant biology, Biology or related discipline
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a greenhouse, horticulture, agriculture or laboratory environment
  • Experience making basic solutions and operating scales, pipets and pH meters
  • Basic knowledge of plant upkeep and care; background of Cannabis life cycle a boon
  • Ability to work in environments with pollen and plant debris
  • Comfortable with basic use of Microsoft office tools such as Excel and Word
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented and able to accurately keep records
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced setting
  • Able to comfortably and safely lift up to 30 lbs.
